Daytona Beach, FL – Seven-time National Dirt Track Champion Chris Carr finished 4th on night one of the 20th annual AMA Grand National Flat Track Championship Opener double-header at Daytona Municipal Stadium.

Chris Carr, aboard his KTM 450 SX-F flat track racing machine with D&D Performance Exhaust, qualified 8th out of ninety-three riders into the night program. Of the sixty riders that moved on to the night program only sixteen would make it into the main event. The program consisted of six heat races where only the top two would move on and four semi finals where only the winner would continue into the main. Luckily, Carr’s experience paid off and he easily transferred into the main with a second overall in his heat.
Carr’s heat race time allowed him 10th gate pick for the main event. He chose a spot on the second row four over from the inside. When the lights turned green Carr got a great jump and shot for the inside line on the first turn to gain ground on the riders that had the advantage of being 24 feet ahead on the front start line. At the end of the first turn he was in 9th and by the end of the second turn he had moved into 6th. Unfortunately, one of the other riders crashed on the first lap causing the AMA to red flag the race. The riders halted in their tracks and returned to their starting positions once more to start the race. A minute later and the action was back on.
For the second time Carr got a great start and was again in 6th after the first lap. Carr used his experience and smooth technique to pass two more riders and move into 4th. Despite the pressure from the back Carr was able to hold off the rest of the field and finished an impressive 4th overall by the time the checkers flew.
Carr’s top five finish for the night puts him in good position for an overall podium finish with one more day to go of this double-header season opener in Daytona Beach, FL.
Overall Results – Wednesday Night:
1. Jake Johnson
2. Ken Coolbeth
3. Glen Schnabel
4. Chris Carr - KTM
5. Henry Wiles
